Tara Gondron, President– Tara, lovingly known by some Pentaholics as mom, is from south Louisiana. She is a mother and absolutely loves spending time with her kids. Tara feels best when working on projects. Thus far, she’s started a scholarship for A Cappella Academy, and numerous birthday projects for various members of PTX. Tara has dealt with great loss in her life, and she couldn’t have pulled through without the love and support from Pentatonix and all the Pentaholics.
Tara has been a Pentaholic since she saw PTX on the Sing Off, and hasn’t slowed down since. With a dozen PTX concerts under her belt and a continuously growing admiration for the group, PentaCon just seemed like the next logical step. As President of PentaCon, Tara is hoping to share the love and joy that Pentaholics have given her throughout the years.
Hassan Ahmed, Vice-President– Having recently graduated with a degree in Integrated Information, Science, and Technology, Hassan keeps busy working full-time and managing a YouTube channel. Music always appealed to him, and he loved playing flute and french horn in school. With all the differences that people have, there are things that unite us all, and he believes that music is one of them. That’s why Hassan became obsessed with Pentatonix from the second they performed on The Sing-Off. Their music and their incredible journey inspired and motivated Hassan to stay positive no matter what happens in life. He shares his passion for PTX through reaction videos on YouTube, which led him to the amazing Pentaholic fandom. Now Hassan is excited to be a part of PentaCon as Vice President, and hopes to help spread the positivity that Pentatonix brings to the world.
Ng Suchin Kim, Secretary – Life has never been the same for Kim since she first heard Pentatonix perform on late-night TV in Singapore, six months after they won The Sing-Off. After giving up her tickets twice, she finally experienced her first PTX concert at The Fonda Theater in LA, cementing her passion and dedication for the band. This also sparked off her crazy lifelong mission of travelling around the world to support PTX, spread their love, and meet as many Pentaholics as possible. The only member of the committtee who does not reside in the US, Kim has not let the distance and timezones dampen her Penta-spirits and is thrilled to be a part of PentaCon as Secretary. She hopes for PentaCon to be a platform for realizing wonderful online Pentaholic friendships, and is determined for the event to be an exemplar of what PTX has always been about: bringing people together through the pure magic that is music. PTX’s music!
Karen Pickens, Treasurer –Karen has been a Pentaholic since The Sing Off, when she predicted they would win on the second episode. Since then, being a part of this fandom has given her priceless memories including five concerts, and too many new friends to count. A singer, writer, and musician, she is a graduate of the University of Tulsa with a degree in marketing, and now works in the health insurance industry. She has been married for eleven years to her high school sweetheart, who was the first person she converted into a Pentaholic. She spends her free time singing at her church and with local choirs, and loves to chase her beautiful three-year-old daughter.
Allison Farr, Event Coordinator – Allison (Allie) is a native Southerner, and has been scandalizing Marietta, Georgia since she was nine. She studied hard and earned a bachelors degree in sociology, dedicating the next 12 years of her life to social work and enduring office politics without maiming anyone. After realizing that she was about to burn her own house down, she quit that line of work and went to beauty school. She’s been happier than ever doing amazing hair, getting inked, & living life out loud ever since. PTX is a big part of that out loud. Allie fell in love with Pentatonix with one song. Dog Days. Since then, she fell into the You Tube vortex of videos, vlogs, interviews, and general good times and hasn’t come back up for air. She’s proud to be a Pentaholic & Superfruit fan, with tattoos to prove her dedication. The positive attitude, humor, and gratitude she see’s displayed by Pentatonix, is something she has incorporated into her everyday life. She is excited to be a part of PentaCon, in the position of Event Planner. Her goal is to ensure the event will be a way to celebrate the positive vibes & fun of PTX with Pentaholics around the world.
Rebecca Blomer, Location Coordinator – Rebecca is from Texas and has been involved in choir and piano lessons since she was six. She graduated with her Master’s in Early Childhood Education, but is taking a break from teaching to stay at home with her three tiny Pentaholics. Pentatonix became a huge part of her life from the moment she first heard them during The Sing Off! Two years ago she founded PTXfans.com to help provide a place for fans of Pentatonix to get reliable news, tour information and share fan art. She is so excited to be a part of creating the first ever Pentaholic meet up!
Melissa Thornton, Volunteer Coordinator – Melissa spent several years on the world’s stages, as an operatic soprano. She studied at Westminster Choir College, achieving a Bachelors of Music Education. While there, she had the honor of singing in some of the finest choirs, under the baton of such conductors as Wolfgang Sawallisch, Zdeněk Mácal, Kurt Masur, and Claudio Abbado. While she no longer sings for her supper, her love of good choir music persists, hence her love of Pentatonix. She can be found singing within her community and the greater NY/NJ area. She now works for a global IT organization, and manages a team of process improvement professionals. She lives in New Jersey with her husband Jeffrey, and Penta-pooch Annie. Not a stranger to travel, Melissa has voyaged to several concerts in the US and Europe, making lifetime Pentaholic friends along the way.
Heather Schandorff, Fundraising Coordinator – Heather lives in MN with her husband of 20 years, her 2 daughters and 3 cats. She has been a Project Manager for 20+ years. Music has always been part of her life and she has been singing since she was 4.
Unlike many of the other committee members, Heather has not been a fan since the Sing Off. She feels like such a bad fan but has been trying to make up for it with concerts, merchandise, and 2 PTX inspired tattoos! A spur of the moment decision to attend PentaCon 2016 with her daughter changed her life and a true Pentaholic was born. She maybe only has 4 PTX concerts (in 3 states) under her belt, but she has an impressive collection of PentaCon merchandise, and is sometimes called the “Merch Queen”. She has experience fundraising for her Company, her church, and her community, and she is thrilled to be part of this committee. Her thoughts on PentaCon 2016: No judgement for your size, age, race, religion, orientation – Just 100% acceptance.
Christian DeMichiel, Social Media Coordinator – Christian will never forget the first time he went to see Pentatonix in concert. If you had told him a year prior that he was about to see his favorite group perform mere feet away with his best friends that he met online standing by his side, he would have laughed. Now, with two concerts, one beanbag performance, one Pentacon, and hundreds of friends made online, that experience is exactly what he loves.
For Christian, it all started when he was scrolling through YouTube and happened to click on a video titled “Daft Punk Medley”. After just one listen, he was hooked. It only took a few months before he joinedTwitter and created @ptx_taco to meet other people that liked the same group as him. It’s been almost two years and he has yet to find such a loving, accepting, talented, and sweet online community.
Christian is passionate about supporting the PTX fandom and truly wants to help others make online connections so that they too can feel part of this incredible group. Keep an eye on your social media feeds! As Social Media Coordinator, Christian will be doing his best to keep everyone informed and excited for Pentacon 2k18!
